DEATH OF THE IGBO LANGUAGE (an article by Ikechukwu on the importance of the native(Igbo) language.)

The DEATH OF IGBO LANGUAGE
IGBO AMAKA!!!
After listening to the lecture given during the annual Odenigbo lecture held at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri,a lecture initiated by Most Rev A. J. V. Obinna, the catholic archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese,I couldn't help but feel ashamed for "Ndi igbo". We are at the verge of driving our language to extinction. We live in an era where it is termed ''igbotic'' to speak our language in a gathering of young adults. I begin to wonder if we are supposed to be ''yorubatic'' or ''hausatic'',or is it ''englishtic''. This is where I admire our Hausa and Yoruba brothers and sisters. It is rare to find them speaking any language other than theirs to themselves. An Ada-Igbo wrote about her NYSC experience, "when I went for my National Youth Service, there were 9 yoruba ladies and 3 Igbos. These yoruba ladies were truly what we call 'babes' but they always spok…

IT'S A DISASTER! A DISASTER!

Michael, I love you and my heart skips a beat whenever you hold my hands.." Michael cut me off with a kiss, I'm not talking the regular sloppy kisses most of you get. This Kiss made my knees literally weak and as I was about falling, he caught me, his hands firmly around my waist and he deepened the kiss until I sighed and his chest heaved but our lips never parted.. A sharp smell brought me back to my room, to the lice infested foam Azuka and I shared. The smell became almost unbearable and I had to hold my breathe as I turned to the right. You see, I always face the left whenever I'm sleeping _I guess it's just natural. I'm guessing you should have realized also how tough it'd be for me sleeping facing the right. I relaxed my breathe and tried forcing myself back to my Majid Michael romantic dream. I forced my eyes shut and tried to focus on the dream but all I could see was black_ very thick black, the blackest kind of black with small starry and thread like…

A VERY NOT-SO-UNCONVINCING CHRISTMAS STORY

I checked my phone for the fifth time in less than two
minutes for a reply from Dennis on bbm, still, Nothing, it
was still marked "D". This was becoming annoying, really, he
knew he owed me money and I wanted my money back. "Ah ah,
which kin nonsense come be this one now?" I said, not even
angry at the sight of the rat that ran pass to the other
corner of my room as I sat on my 8 spring mattress thinking. I wasn't even angry that PHCN had denied
our street of electricity for weeks in a row. No, I was angry
that Dennis owed me and knowing who he was, it would take
awhile before he paid me back. But I didn't care anymore,
yesterday was 25th December and I was not feeling the season.
I ate the leftover beans from Tuesday with the little Ijebu
garri I had left  for lunch yesterday and that was very
annoying, for Christs' sake I should have gone out to Ozone
      an…

TODAY I REALIZED (TIR)
TIR people get tied up in what they think they should do,my Advise: do You.

CHRISTMAS EVE

Yeah,so today got some of us caught up with loads of stuffs to do, from last minute shopping to kitchen work etc, while, well others were just Err totally not interested in the seasons' hustle(for our brothers and sisters who do not celebrate Christmas and those of other religions). This season got some of us wired though and yes this was just affirmed by the bangers and fireworks I can hear from my room.
Well we all know what's up with this season:enough "chopping", "drinking", "partying" and most especially feeling the warmth of our families plus other little Christmas traditions. A big "eyaah" to all those not at home this period to be with their families, not forgetting though that friends are also family and could be with them Wherever they are. Sides these we all know ( if you like pretend you don't), the real deal about Christmas so I won't waste any time spelling it out.
Word, let's all try as we're having fu…

PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE ME

PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE ME
When I was younger, I used to play this game in my mind,
whenever I got introduced to a person, I instantly judged them according to their name, depending on whom I knew from before bearing the same name: so for instance if I
knew a certain Jennifer who was slutty or arrogant etc and my friend says,
"meet my friend Jennifer.." in my mind I'd be like " hello
slut or arrogant cow etc" before I smiled and said, "nice to meet you Jennifer"
      and etc.
Then I guess we could say I was immature and a silly
kid  and also that the game went a bit (well maybe more than a bit) over the top, just this afternoon,I put this old childish habit of
mine and the never dying habit of societal stereotyping side and side. Guess what? They fit perfectly(except for the judging according to name part though). They're practically the same thing. So most of us
      see a spoilt/disrespect…

TODAY I REALIZED (TIR)

TIR Everyone changes_ even puppies. I was away from my family puppies for a month and when I met them today eventually, to shower them with my love and play as we used to, one scratched my palm and and the other tried bitting my nose! I guess they found a new friend and I've been replaced. Lesson learnt.

TODAY I REALIZED (TIR)

TIR few months back i had realized that a pretty face doesn't
pay the bills. You can try, literally, to make eye contact
(even if you take out your eyeballs to focus..) on the
landlord/lady and they'd still give you a quit notice if they
wanted to. Err best get that bill paid on Time.

WHY THE HELL SHOULD EDUCATION BE THE TOUGH NUT TO CRACK?CRACK?

WHY THE HELL SHOULD EDUCATION BE THE TOUGH NUT TO CRACK?
When we were in Nursery School and we went to school
with our colourful lunch boxes and water flasks, when we
watched "Teletubbies", "Barney And Friends" and played with
our new found friends and pooped in our diapers without a
care in the world, even when we sang "twinkle twinkle little
star" and other nursery rhymes in our Personal versions like,
"tinkle tinkle likle Star!.."without a care in the world; i
duobt we knew then what we were signing up for. As the years
dragged by though and we got into Primary School and had to
cope with more subjects, pass the end-of-the-Term-Exams, wash
our uniforms and socks, Answer to the teachers' roll-call and
differentiate between the different bells Rung at intervals, I
guess we thought that was the highest and toughest the
      education and school thingy …

TODAY I REALIZED (TIR)

TIR "mood swings" literally move emotions back and forth; the sneaky bastards sneak up on you and bam! you get all moody. TBH it sucks bigtime.
